جورج البهجوري (1932) هو أحد أشهر الفنانين المصريين المعاصرين. بدأ حياته المهنية كرسام كاريكاتير سياسي في روز اليوسف ثم درس الرسم و التصوير تحت إشراف الفنان البارز حسين بيكار. كانت خلفيته كرسام كاريكاتير سياسي هي أحد أسباب تحقيقه لعلامته التجارية “الجد الأكبر للكاريكاتير”. كما أنه معروف أيضًا بكونه رسامًا ونحاتًا. يستلهم بهجوري موضوعاته من الفن المصري والإفريقي القديم. و يعكس مزيجه الرائع من الأشكال المنمقة وملامح الوجه المبالغ فيها خلفيته الكاريكاتورية وأسلوبه الأصلي. ينقل بهجوري مزيجًا مبتكرًا من عناصر الفن الكلاسيكي والمعاصر ويخلق أعمالًا ذات صلة بثقافة البوب ​​المصرية وتراثها وهويتها.

يُعرف بهجوري بأسلوبه الكوميدي الذي طوره أثناء تدريباته على فن الكاريكاتيرو ربطه بلوحاته، ومع ذلك فإن روح الدعابة لديه لا تقلص من عمق عمله، بل تساهم بشكل كبير في هويته الفنية المميزة. كما أنه معروف بتكريمه لأسطورة أم كلثوم المشهورة طوال حياته المهنية. يتم تقدير أعمال بهجوري على المستوى الدولي. عُرضت أعماله في متحف اللوفر في باريس وكندا والسودان وتونس وبلغاريا وغيرها. يمكن العثور على أعماله في متاحف مختلفة مثل متحف لومانسي في فرنسا ، ومتحف الفن الحديث في عمان ، ومتحف الفن المصري الحديث في القاهرة

George Bahgoury (1932) is one of the most renowned contemporary Egyptian artists of our time. He began his career as a political cartoonist featuring in Rose El Youssef and he later studied painting under the guidance of notable artist, Hussein Bicar. His background as a political cartoonist is how he achieved his trademark as the “Grandfather of Caricatures.” He is also equally acclaimed as a painter and sculptor.

Bahgoury is inspired by Ancient Egyptian and African art. His exquisite blend of stylized figures and exaggerated facial features reflect his cartoonist background and original style. He communicates an innovative blend of elements from classical and contemporary art and creates works relevant to Egyptian pop culture, heritage and identity.

He’s known for the comical twists he extends from his caricaturist trainings to his paintings, however his humor does not reduce from the depth of his work, on the contrary, it further contributes his distinctive artistic identity. He’s also known for honoring the well-known legend of Um Kulthoum numerously throughout his career.

Bahgoury’s work is valued on an international scale. His work has been featured at the Louvre in Paris, in Canada, Sudan, Tunisia and Bulgaria among many more. His work can be found in various museums including the Loumansi in France, Museum of Modern Art in Amman and the Museum of Egyptian Modern Art in Cairo.
