Asmaa Genidi – أسماء جنيدى

Born in Giza in 1983, Asmaa Genidi is a visual artist. She holds a PhD in Philosophy of Art Education, awarded in 2016, and is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Drawing and Painting, Faculty of Art Education, at Capital University.

She has participated in numerous competitions and artistic events, in addition to presenting several solo exhibitions and taking part in a range of group exhibitions and art workshops at both local and international levels.

Genidi began her artistic practice outside the academic sphere in 2009, working in drawing and painting alongside her studies in animation and experimental film. Contemporary photography became a key visual reference in her practice, helping her shape her animated works and leading her to produce several animated films whose main elements were drawn from her painting series.

She later moved towards experimentation in printmaking and heat transfer techniques, producing a body of work that was presented in two solo exhibitions, one in 2013 and another in 2016. During this phase, she focused on composing elements and themes within an imaginative narrative framework that reflected deeply personal relationships and associations.

By 2020, her artistic direction began to shift towards a range of satirical and diverse themes, which she developed through colourful compositions built on the combination of contradictions. Through this approach, she sought to create a satirical visual language open to multiple interpretations, varying according to the viewer’s culture and perspective. The first group of these works was presented in her solo exhibition “Who Invited them?” in 2022, which marked the real beginning of her current body of work centred on satire as a mode of expression.

مواليد الجيزة ١٩٨٣، فنانة بصرية وحاصلة على درجة الدكتوراه في فلسفة التربية الفنية ٢٠١٦، وأستاذ مساعد بقسم الرسم والتصوير، كلية التربية الفنية، جامعة العاصمة. شاركت في العديد من المسابقات والفعاليات الفنية، إلى جانب إقامتها لعدة معارض فردية، ومشاركتها في مجموعة من المعارض الجماعية والورش الفنية على المستويين المحلي والدولي.

بدأت “جنيدي” ممارستها الفنية خارج النطاق الأكاديمي عام ٢٠٠٩ في مجالي الرسم والتصوير، بالتوازي مع دراستها للرسوم المتحركة والأفلام التجريبية؛ حيث استلهمت من التصوير المعاصر مرجعاً بصرياً أساسياً ساعدها في صياغة أعمال التحريك الخاصة بها، لتنتج عدداً من أفلام الرسوم المتحركة المستمدة عناصرها الأساسية من مجموعات لوحاتها.

انتقلت الفنانة بعد ذلك نحو التجريب في مجال الطباعة والنقل الحراري؛ حيث أنتجت مجموعة من الأعمال عُرضت في معرضين فرديين أحدهما عام ٢٠١٣ والآخر عام ٢٠١٦. وقد اعتمدت في هذه المرحلة على صياغة عناصر وتيمات في قالب سردي خيالي، يعكس علاقات ذات طابع شخصي خاص بها.

ومع حلول عام ٢٠٢٠، بدأ مسارها الفني يتجه نحو العمل على تيمات ساخرة ومتنوعة، صاغتها في تكوينات ملونة تعتمد على الجمع بين المتناقضات بهدف الوصول إلى جملة بصرية تهكمية تحمل تأويلات متعددة تختلف باختلاف ثقافة المتلقي ووجهة نظره، فعرضت المجموعة الأولى من هذه الأعمال بمعرضها الفردي “من أتى بهؤلاء؟” بجاليري أوبونتو عام ٢٠٢٢، والذي مثل البداية الفعلية لمجموعة من أعمالها الحالية التي ترتكز على السخرية كوسيلة للتعبير.
