Mahmoud Talaat – محمود طلعت

Born in Cairo in 1996, Mahmoud Talaat is an Egyptian visual artist who graduated from the Department of Painting at Helwan University’s Faculty of Fine Arts in 2020. Drawing inspiration from his daily experiences, the city’s fabric, and human experiences, Mahmoud seeks to incorporate multiple dimensions and layers into his artworks. He skilfully intertwines the conceptual, ambiguous, and explicit by blending elements of photography and painting, either directly or through thematic inspiration.

Talaat’s work delves into themes of identity, roots, and origins, while also reflecting on memories of people and places that have played a significant role in his life. He started drawing and taking photographs at a young age and worked as a photojournalist at Sherouk newspaper in 2019, which after he devoted his time to his artistic practice. His art has been featured in numerous group exhibitions and art fairs including Townhouse Gallery (2019), “Visual Records” in the main hall of the Faculty of Fine Arts (2019), the Islamic Museum (2019), Dai Exhibition (2020), Cairo Photo Week (2021) and Ubuntu Art Gallery (2021).

He represented North Africa in the “Art Across Borders” project, sponsored by AFREXIMBANK, at ArtX Lagos in 2023 and the REA Art Fair in Milan, Italy. That same year, he held his first solo exhibition titled “REM” at Ubuntu Art Gallery in Cairo. In 2024, Talaat participated in a month-long residency in Leipzig, Germany supported by Goethe Institute as a winner of Roznama Competition.

وُلد محمود طلعت في القاهرة عام ١٩٩٦، وهو فنان بصري مصري تخرج من قسم التصوير بكلية الفنون الجميلة في جامعة حلوان عام ٢٠٢٠. يستمد محمود إلهامه من تجاربه اليومية، ونسيج المدينة، والتجارب الإنسانية، حيث يسعى إلى دمج أبعاد وطبقات متعددة في أعماله الفنية. يتميز بقدرته على المزج بين المفاهيمي والغامض والصريح من خلال الجمع بين عناصر التصوير الفوتوغرافي والرسم، سواء بشكل مباشر أو من خلال الإلهام المواضيعي.

تتناول أعمال طلعت موضوعات الهوية والجذور والأصول، بينما تعكس أيضًا ذكريات الأشخاص والأماكن التي لعبت دورًا مهمًا في حياته. بدأ محمود في الرسم والتصوير الفوتوغرافي في سن صغير، وعمل كمصور صحفي لجريدة الشروق في عام ٢٠١٩، ومن بعدها تفرغ لمسيرته الفنية. تم عرض أعماله في العديد من المعارض الجماعية منها “سجلات بصرية” بكلية الفنون الجميلة و معرض جماعي بالتاون هاوس عام ٢٠١٩, ومعرض فوتوجرافي بالمتحف الإسلامي لعام ٢٠١٩, معرض “ضي” ومعرض “ابيض واسود” بمركز الجزيرة للفنون لعام ٢٠٢٠، ومعرض أسبوع القاهرة للتصوير ب فوتوبيا لعام ٢٠٢١.

مثل شمال إفريقيا في مشروع “الفن عبر الحدود” برعاية بنك AFREXIMBANK في معرض ArtX Lagos عام ٢٠٢٣، وكذلك في معرض REA للفنون في ميلانو بإيطاليا. وفي العام نفسه، أقام أول معرض فردي له بعنوان “REM” في قاعة أوبونتو للفنون بالقاهرة. في عام ٢٠٢٤، شارك محمود في إقامة فنية استمرت لمدة شهر في لايبزيغ بألمانيا بدعم من معهد جوته، كفائز في مسابقة روزناما.
