Alaa Abd-Elrahman

Cairo-based visual artist born in 1994. She graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts in 2018 and has been actively engaged in the contemporary art scene ever since. Rooted in personal stories and cultural heritage, her work examines the relationship between past and present through memory, symbolism, and mythology.

Working primarily in oil painting, Alaa considers how tradition and myth shape her understanding of identity and the world around her. By rediscovering and reinterpreting ancient mythological symbols, she brings them into the present to construct narratives of her own. Her practice reflects on how myths can move beyond their original contexts and become a visual language through which she expresses her personal perspective on the transformations shaping contemporary life.

In 2020, she joined the Student Council program at Studio Khana for Contemporary Arts and Cultural Development, marking an important step in the development of her artistic practice.

آلاء عبد الرحمن فنانة تشكيلية من القاهرة، وُلدت عام ١٩٩٤. تخرّجت في كلية الفنون الجميلة عام ٢٠١٨، ومنذ ذلك الحين وهي تشارك بفاعلية في المشهد الفني المعاصر. تستمد أعمالها ملامحها من الحكايات الشخصية والتراث الثقافي، وتستكشف العلاقة بين الماضي والحاضر من خلال الذاكرة والرمزية والميثولوجيا.

تعمل آلاء بشكل أساسي من خلال الرسم الزيتي، وتبحث في أثر التراث والأسطورة في تشكيل فهمها للهوية والعالم المحيط بها. ومن خلال إعادة اكتشاف الرموز الأسطورية القديمة وتأويلها، تصوغ حكاياتها الخاصة، مستدعيةً هذه الرموز في سياق الحاضر. كما تبحث ممارستها الفنية في الكيفية التي تتجاوز بها الأساطير القديمة سياقاتها الأصلية، لتصبح وسيلة تعبّر من خلالها عن رؤيتها الشخصية وتأملاتها في التحولات التي تشكّل العالم الذي نعيش فيه اليوم.

في عام ٢٠٢٠، انضمّت إلى برنامج مجلس الطلاب في استوديو خانة للفنون المعاصرة والتنمية الثقافية، وهو ما مثّل محطة مهمة في مسيرتها الفنية.

شاركت آلاء في العديد من المعارض على المستوى المحلي منها معرض In Transition في أركيد جاليري (٢٠٢٥)، ومعرض أشيائي المفضلة ٨ في قاعة مشربية (٢٠٢٤)، معرض وصلة (٢٠٢٤) ومعرض نغمات مختلفة ٢ (٢٠٢٢) بقاعة أوبونتو، ومعرض Swaying Luck في Bibliothek Egypt(٢٠٢٢) ومعرض We Are Seldom in Two Places at Once في درب ١٧ – ١٨ عام (٢٠٢٠).
